The Circle of Friends Cancer Care Unit in Tipperary Town has received a welcome financial boost.

The Circle of Friends Cancer Care Unit in Tipperary Town has received a welcome financial boost.

The centre has been granted €10,000 out of a new fund set up to be administered by the chairman of the newly amalgamated south and North Tipperary county Councils.

The first holder of that office Cllr. Michael Fitzgerald, the outgoing Chairman of Tipperary Co. Council, has approved a €10,000 contribution from the Cathaoirleach’s Project Fund for the new Circle of Friends Cancer Care Centre.

Cllr. Fitzgerald visited Circle of Friends in Tipperary town last week during their weekly Friday coffee morning and announced the good news to founder, Jennifer Jones-Hickey.

Founder of Circle of Friends, Jennifer Jones-Hickey, welcomed Cllr. Fitzgerald and graciously accepted the cheque. “We are so delighted to receive this donation which go in to our capital fund for the new project of building a Cancer Support Centre for the Tipperary and Limerick region. Michael Fitzgerald has been a great support to Circle of Friends from the very start attending many of our coffee mornings and fundraisers. He has always been impressed with the services that Circle of Friends provides and he has watched us grow from strength-to-strength. It’s great to have his support not only as Chairperson of the Tipperary County Council but also as a friend.”

The money will be paid on completion of our new Circle of Friends Cancer Care building. Founder Jennifer Jones-Hickey, her family and friends and all those who volunteer at the centre as well as the service users are eternally grateful to Cllr. Michael for his continued support and they wish him well for the future.
