The Cahir Camogie u14 team has won Gold Medals at the Community Games Finals in Athlone for the second year in a row.

They met old rivals Lucan from Dublin in the semi-final. The first half was a closely fought battle. Cahir had the opening scores with points from Aisling Moloney and Roisin Howard before Lucan replied with the first of two goals. Cahir came back with points from Aoife Corcoran and Aisling Moloney . Roisin then added a goal and two more points to the scoreboard.

Cahir led by only two points at the interval however the Tipp girls dominated the second half with Aoife Corcoran, Carol Casey and Alissa Keating passing many balls into the forwards. Roisin scored a further 4 goals and a point with Carol Casey adding 2 points from midfield. Our half-back Aisling was sweeping up balls all over the pitch and added a goal and a point to Cahir’s tally. The back line of Jessica Weste, Laura Casey and Kirsty Arbuckle repelled many attacks from Lucan. Shauna Burke, Eilis Kennedy and Lauren Noonan played well in the forwards. Our young goalie Dervla Buckley cleared many balls from the goal mouth. Emma O’Donnell and Niamh Murphy had a great second half and helped set up some scores. The two youngest players Roisin McCarthy and Orla Cashman also played very well when introduced and contributed to this great win.

Cahir met Bullaun-NewInn, Galway in the final the following day. New Inn had an early goal so we thought it would be a close battle however this was to be their only score as the Cahir team was on fire. Cahir girls were superb in every position. Roisin Howard, Aisling Moloney, Aoife Corcoran and Carol Casey were scoring at will and put a total of 6-15 on the scoreboard. Jessica Weste was dominant at full back and the opposition were unable to score. The younger players were also outstanding and this was a great display of teamwork. There were great scenes of jubilation when the final whistle was blown. Well done to the management team of Mary Howard, Carol Keating, Martin Halpin, Anthony Corcoran and Marie Casey. Thanks to our nurse Margaret O’Donnell who was kept busy all weekend and our dancer Martin Moloney who kept everyone entertained. The Cahir Team and management looked splendid in their new tracksuits and we would like to thank Michael Keating of Matt Keating Sand and Gravel for his very kind sponsorship.
