Two children and a man were injured in a collision between a car and truck near Cahir last week but luckily they managed to escape the crashed car they were in just before it went up in flames.

The accident involving occurred at Outrath Cross on the Cahir to New Inn Road around 9.30am last Wednesday, August 24.

According to gardai, the car had been travelling from a minor road leading to Poulmucka and the truck was travelling from the direction of New Inn on the Cahir to New Inn Road from the direction of New Inn.

The three occupants of the car were on their way to enjoy a golfing outing when the accident occurred. The driver and his 11 year old son are from the Ballinure area and the other boy in the car, who is aged 12, is from Rosegreen.

A spokesman for Cahir Garda Station said the car went up in flames very shortly after they got out of the vehicle. Two units from Cahir Fire Service put the blaze under control.

The driver of the car was still being treated for serious injuries at South Tipperary Hospital intensive care unit this week.

The two boys were also injured and treated South Tipperary General Hospital but have since been discharged.

The driver of the truck wasn’t physically injured but was in shock after the collision.
