A Clonmel singer is busy preparing for his appearance on the live televised show of RTE's All-Ireland Talent Show on New Year's Eve.

John McNamara from Marlfield will be one of eight acts who will represent the southern region, when he will be up against competitors from the other regions including the north, west, east and Dublin.

Johnny Mac, as he's known on the show, has been rehearsing in Dublin since Tuesday for the big event on New Year's Eve.

His repertoire features mostly Country and Irish and also includes songs by acts such as Johnny Cash, Don Williams, Neil Diamond and Elvis. His performance of Neil Diamond's 'I Am I Said' impressed judge John Creedon on an earlier programme and earned him a place in the next round.

John says he will do his best to represent the south and he's hoping that viewers in Clonmel and Tipperary will tune into the show and offer him every support by texting and phoning their votes, as he bids to advance in the competition.

The show is hosted by Grainne Seoige and the final will be held on St. Patrick's Day, with the overall winner receiving €50,000.
