The celebration of the Galtee Walking Club’s 10th anniversary took place at Aherlow House Hotel on Sunday, 28th July with a 2 hour walk retracing the route of the first walk followed by a meal afterwards in the hotel.
After a welcome from chairman, Tom Lyons, Club president, Danny Bailey brought the 46 walkers on a loop past Rock an Thorabh and back by the Statue and the Nature Park. This was a perfect way to work up an appetite for the excellent fare served up by Aherlow House staff to all on their return.
During the meal there were speeches from Tom and Danny as well as two special guests on the day. Recently crowned Pride of Tipperary, Donna Breen from Rossadrehid who had climbed Galtymore on a charity walk the previous day, wished the club well for the future.
Retired Tipperary butcher, John Bradshaw, spoke of his early experiences of walking in the Galtees.
The club also welcomed Helen Morrissey of Aherlow Failte to the celebration.
Many thanks to the management and staff of Aherlow House for looking after everyone so well and a special thanks to the club’s social secretary, Breda Ryan and her colleagues, for putting the event together.
