Cahir teenager critical in hospital following car crash

A 19 year-old motorist remained in a critical condition in South Tipperary General Hospital yesterday (Tuesday) following a serious car accident outside Cahir last weekend.

A 19 year-old motorist remained in a critical condition in South Tipperary General Hospital yesterday (Tuesday) following a serious car accident outside Cahir last weekend.

The teenager, who is from Kilnabutler, Cahir, was the only occupant of the Nissan Primera that was involved in a collision with a Ford Mondeo car at Ballydrehid just outside Cahir on the N24 Cahir to Tipperary Road.

The injured motorist was travelling from the direction of Tipperary Town towards Cahir while the occupants of the Ford Mondeo were travelling in the opposite direction when the collision occurred.

The crash happened at approximately 8.20pm last Saturday.

Gardai in Cahir, who are investigating the accident, said the two occupants of the Ford Mondeo were not injured in the accident.

The seriously injured driver of the Nissan Primera was rushed by ambulance to South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel.

As The Nationalist went to press yesterday, he remained in a critical condition in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

The section of road where the collision occurred was closed for a period on Saturday night to enable Gardai carry out a forensic examination of the accident scene. Examinations are also being conducted on the two cars involved in the crash.

Gardai have issued an appeal to anyone who witnessed the accident or came upon the accident scene after the collision to assist them with their investigation.
