Recently Cahir lost one of its senior citizens, retired local businessman, Tom Shanahan.
Having moved to Cahir from Donegal in 1966, Tom served his time as manager in the IAWS until his retirement in 1992 when he embarked on a new venture by buying ‘The Bell.’ He enjoyed many happy years there up to his retirement in 2010. He also served as Captain and President in Cahir Park Golf Club. Tom passed away on September 5, the day after celebrating the tenth anniversary of the twinning of Scarborough and Cahir with many of his friends from both towns. He is survived by his wife, Pat, their six children, 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The family celebrated his months mind last Saturday. Tom was a gentleman with a great sense of humour and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Deepest sympathies to his beloved family and many friends. May he rest in peace.
