Seanad Éireann spokesperson on Defence, Senator Denis Landy has paid tribute to the approximately 400 Irish troops that will be spending Christmas overseas this year, in Lebanon, Syria and elsewhere.
The Carrick-on-Suir based Labour Senator acknowledged the level of professionalism, dedication, and bravery shown by all of the Irish troops both at home and abroad throughout the year.
“The political and security situation in these regions can be volatile and it takes a strong and committed type of person to put themselves in these conditions for the greater good” Senator Landy remarked
Senator Landy said that a number of recent well publicised instances have highlighted the level of instability that can arise when on tour. The manner in which Irish troops responded is a testament to the intense training they have undergone. We are indebted to these men and women.
