Le crunch time for Siobhan in national photography competition

A pupil from Powerstown National School in Clonmel is one of 12 pupils from across Ireland shortlisted in the Le Crunch Photobyte Schools Photography Competition.

9 year-old Siobhan Whelan’s unique apple-themed photograph captured the judges’ attention and will now be displayed at a special exhibition in the Hugh Lane Gallery in Dublin at the Le Crunch Photobyte Competition Grand Final on Monday, 14th May.

The photograph will also be on display at Le Crunch stands in selected Dunnes Stores across Ireland and the public will be invited to vote for their favourite composition.

Siobhan is daughter of Carmel and John Whelan, Ballyvaughan, Powerstown, Clonmel.

Primary and Post-Primary students across Ireland have spent the last month focusing their creative juices on creating a photographic masterpiece and the final 12 students are now in with a chance of winning thousands of euros in prizes.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three entrants in each category of students at Primary School level - Junior (age 5-9) and Senior (age 10-13) - and Post-Primary School level - Junior (age 12-15) and Senior (age 16-19) - at the National Final exhibition in the Hugh Lane Gallery on May 14th.

The Dunnes Stores People’s Choice Award grand prize winner will be selected by customers of Dunnes Stores at in-store displays across Ireland.

Siobhan, her family and her school are excited and proud to have been selected from so many entries across the whole of Ireland to represent Tipperary in the national finals.
