Carrick Music Theatre Festival postponed due to All-Ireland final replay

The second annual Carrick-on-Suir Music Theatre Festival Committee due to take place this weekend is being postponed to a later date due to “extremely poor” ticket sales.

The Festival was scheduled to take place at the Strand Theatre this Friday and Saturday night with four musical societies from Wexford, Lexlip, Waterford and Carrick-on-Suir taking part.

Three of the societies were to compete for the Festival’s Dick Meany Trophy.

But yesterday (Tuesday) the Festival’s organising committee announced it had decided to postpone the event due to poor ticket sales for the two shows.

Festival Committee spokesman Caolan Deehy-Power said the Festival coincided with the All-Ireland Hurling Final replay between Tipperary and Kilkenny in Dublin on Saturday evening This has greatly contributed to the poor ticket sales as many locals, who would normally attend the Festival shows are either going to the replay or watching it at home or with friends.

He stressed the Committee hadn’t taken the decision lightly and wished to apologise for any inconvenience caused .

“We promise the Festival will return in the near future and thank everyone for their support and the competing societies for all their hard work and support in the last few months.”
