A third level student from Clonmel is to stand for election to the Young Fine Gael National Executive.

Declan Burgess (19), The Rock, Cashel, is a student of History and Geography at Maynooth University, and is running for the position of Munster Regional Organiser (MRO) on the Young Fine Gael (YFG) National Executive.

The vote takes place at the YFG Conference in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Limerick from the 6th to 8th of March. The conference will gather hundreds YFG members from around the country to discuss major issues of the day, to decide on the organisations policies and to elect a new National Executive.

If elected, Declan will represent the Munster region on the executive. He said: “I am putting my name forward for this election for one reason only and that is to help and support the membership of YFG in Munster”. He continued saying “he believes his track record in YFG will stand to him come election day”. Declan’s main priorities are supporting the Munster branches, mobilising canvassing events for the general election and particularly the Marriage Equality Referendum. Also, Declan aims to grow the membership, with particular interest in promoting more female members to become more active in the organisation. Declan concluded by saying “In my time in YFG, I have seen what works and what doesn’t work. I hope to bring my experience to the role, with a new vision for our region and along with strong dedication to the membership”.
