“It certainly was not all horned helmets and floaty dresses for the noble ladies of the middle ages!”

That’s according to Dr Gillian Kenny of TCD, who gave a most informative lecture at Cashel Library last week, as part of the Summer Lecture Series.

Gillian said that noble ladies of that period were trained and accustomed to fighting, defending their castles and households in time of warfare and also managing all aspects of their (and their husband’s) estates. We will be delighted to welcome Gillian back to Cashel on August 20 for a lecture on the Hackett Effigies in Cashel, as part of Heritage Week.

On July 2 Liam Mannix will present: ‘Life in a Medieval Town: The Grim Details’. Liam is the manager of the Irish Walled Towns division of The Heritage Council. We are looking forward to Liam’s talk at 7.15pm upstairs in the Library in Cashel.
