Carrick-on-Suir’s new mayor is the third generation of his family to serve on the Town Council.
In his speech following his election as mayor, Cllr Kieran Bourke said the 80 years of continuous service by his family on the Council was a matter of great pride to him.
Cllr Bourke’s grandfather PP was first elected to the Council in 1934. PP was succeeded by Cllr Bourke’s uncle Dinny, who died in 2008. Cllr Bourke was co-opted onto Town Council to fill his late uncle’s seat and retained the seat in the 2009 council elections.
