Gardai are investigating the firing of a gunshot through the back window of a parked jeep in a Clonmel housing estate last Saturday night.

It's believed a shotgun was the weapon used in the shooting incident that shattered the rear window of the vehicle parked outside a house at Heywood Close.

The sinister incident occurred around 8.15pm and gardai have appealed to anyone who witnessed the crime or saw suspicious activity in that area between 8pm and 9pm on Saturday to help them in their investigations.

Sgt. Tom O'Dwyer of Clonmel Garda Station said residents heard a loud bang and when they went out to investigate found a shot had been fired through the jeep.

He said gardai didn't know the motive for the crime as yet or who was involved.

"We are keeping an open mind on the cause of it," he told The Nationalist.

He urged anyone with information to contact Clonmel Garda Station at (052) 6172513
