Gardai and the Health & Safety Authority have launched separate investigations into a farm accident that resulted in the death of a 66 year-old woman in South Tipperary on Monday night.

The married woman is understood to have been working at a farm yard at Coolmoyne, Fethard helping with the feeding of cattle when she was fatally injured in the accident that occurred around 7pm.

Her identity had not yet been released at the time of going to press as some relatives had still to be informed of her death.

A garda spokesman said the woman died at the scene of the accident.

Her body was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital where a post mortem examination was carried out.

He said the Gardai were investigating the accident.

A Health & Safety Authority spokesman said one of their inspectors visited the farm yesterday (Tuesday) as part of their investigation into the tragedy.

This is the second fatal farm accident in South Tipperary in the space of three months.

Last October, 67 years-old Edmond (Eddie) Dillon was killed when he fell through the roof of a shed while working at his farm at Cooleagh, Fethard.
