The drive to keep Clonmel clean has received help from an unusual source.

Tom Pintal from the American ski resort of Aspen, Colorado, was spotted by members of the local Tidy Towns Committee picking up litter in the town two years ago.

He told committee secretary Frank O’Donoghue that Clonmel was a beautiful town but one with a litter problem, and he decided to do something about it.

Tom was delighted to join the Tidy Towns Committee and helps out whenever he visits friends in Clonmel.

“Tom turned out to be a dedicated worker. He really impressed our committee and is an inspiration to us”, says Frank O’Donoghue.

His efforts were rewarded by the Borough Council earlier this year when he and Tidy Towns committee were accorded a reception at the Town Hall by former Mayor Siobhan Ambrose.

Tom is attached to the ski resort industry in Aspen and also dabbles in film making.

The National Tidy Towns results will be announced early next month.
