Three hours since the first boxes were opened in Clonmel and the following is the latest tally, with 40 out of 152 boxes open:

Davis 148 (1.98%)

Gallagher 2506 (33.6%)

Norris 285 (3.82%)

Scallon 202 (2.71%)

In the referendum early tallies indicate a high number of no votes against the Dail investigation powers (Abbylara) referendum.

An hour into the presidential election count in South Tipperary and the two front runners are neck and neck.

Very early figures, with just 11 boxes open, indicate that Michael D Higgins is leading the poll on 1290 votes.

Sean Gallagher has 1128 votes.

There were 29 spoiled votes.

Sorting and counting of votes began in the band hall in Clonmel at 9am this morning. This is an indication from very early tallies and not a full count.

The first count is expected to be announced later this afternoon.
