The Tidy Towns Group will take a well-earned Christmas Break next week but will regroup on Saturday, December 29, with the launch of the new “Three Year Town Plan” in the Shamrock Lounge.

This will set out the years ahead and what is needed to achieve more marks in the national competition for the duration of the plan.

The plan will be launched at 8.30pm and all are welcome.

Anyone wishing to take part in 2013 or look after a stretch of their own road should give their name to the Chairman, Andy Moloney on 0863609110 or Secretary Janette on 0868032687.

We are well into our Energy Neighbourhoods Project and members are busy cutting down on electric usage and we will have an energy saving cooking display in January.

The recent paint collection will be mixed and used as undercoat in areas of the town.

Meanwhile, the judicators reported under the heading of Waste Minimisation as follows: “Your participation in World Energy Day and Earth Hour is noted. We noted the two green flags flying at Colaiste Dun Iascaigh. Congrats to Our Lady’s of Mercy Girls School for achieving five flags and we hope they achieve their ambition of a sixth flag this year. Bring banks were fine, have you calculated the quantities of material that is recycled from the bring banks and the collections from houses, schools etc?”

Finally, a word of thanks to Pat Kinsella and Paddy Loughnane for their hard work recently. Hopefully the town will benefit from your efforts and a special word of thanks to all who helped during the year and a Happy and Peaceful Christmas to all.
