Aidan Long: An Appreciation by Lattin Lawn Tennis Club

It was with great sadness and shock that the community of Lattin and Cullen learned of the sudden passing of Aidan Long on January 25, this year after a short illness.

Aidan was born in Ballinulty Cullen in 1963, the son of the late Tom and Theresa Long and brother to Noreen and James. He was educated in Shronell national school and the Abbey CBS and he received his BComm from UCC 1986. He married his wife Alex in 1991 and had three beautiful children Amy, Alison and Darragh. He pursued a career in farming and was held in high esteem amongst the farming community.

Aidan loved all sport, chiefly hunting, rugby and especially tennis. Aidan was an active member of Lattin Lawn Tennis club for many years where he played tennis and helped with the running of the club with his wife Alex. Aidan was well known in tennis circles, playing with Emly, Kilfeacle and the County Tennis club where he had many friends and tennis buddies. Aidan was a gentleman on and off the court; he would always give his opponents the benefit on a close call. He will be sadly missed by all the players from these clubs.

At only 49 years old Aidan made a lasting impression on people that he met with his mild manner and gentle character. He will be greatly missed in the Lattin tennis club. We have lost a true friend and neighbour; his contribution to our lives will be sadly missed.

Lattin Lawn Tennis club extends its sympathies and condolences to Aidan’s wife Alex, his daughters Amy and Alison and his son Darragh on their great loss. May he rest in peace
