A Cashel man who came tantalisingly close to winning a seat on the Town Council in the 2009 local elections is to seek a nomination from Fine Gael to run again next summer - but this time in a different electoral area.

Richard Wood lost out by only three votes on that occasion. Now he says that he will seek a nomination from his party to run for the new all-county County Council but this time in the new Carrick on Suir Electoral Area, because the Local Areas Boundary Committee has placed a large section of the Cashel rural community there. He said the new areas leave many people disappointed and with a feeling of being isolated into a corner 30 miles from the new centre of administration, even though in many instances they are only a mile from Cashel. Expressing his disappointment at the changes which will have a big impact on the day to day lives of so many people as well as to the commercial life of Cashel Mr Wood will be telling the party it has an obligation to the people effected by these changes, to give them the opportunity to be represented by someone from Cashel.
