Independent TD Mattie McGrath has strongly urged Mobile phone and internet provider 3 to quickly address the lack of broadband signal in the Newcastle, Nire Valley and Ballymacarbry areas.
Deputy McGrath was speaking after it emerged that some areas of his constituency have been left 9 days without a working or reliable signal, which is causing considerable distress and inconvenience.
“This is a problem that has been on-going for some time now. Local businesses and community groups have been left seriously disadvantaged as a result of this fault and it is unacceptable, especially for those involved in tourism who could be losing business as a result of this lack of broadband.
3 have been awarded the contract to provide broadband under the National Broadband Scheme and as a result they have serious obligations to ensure that the service is returned without further delay. It is not acceptable that National Broadband Scheme customers have been left without broadband for such a long time”, he stated.
