The Town Council has decided to take legal action against the owner of a prominent derelict site along the N24 route through Carrick-on-Suir town centre after its owners failed to follow through on promises to clean it up.

Town Clerk Michael O’Brien informed the Council’s September meeting that despite several assurances from the owners, the former garage site on John St. hasn’t been cleaned up and the matter was now being forwarded to the local authority’s solicitors for appropriate action.

Mr O’Brien revealed this development in his reply to FG Cllr Margaret Croke’s motion calling on the Council to request the owner to enclose the site with shuttering to hide it from public view. Her proposal was opposed by several councillors, who feared rubbish would be illegally dumped behind any hoarding erected around the site.
