An elderly Mullinahone man was robbed of a quantity of cash by a man who called to his house last week on the pretence of doing a meter reading.
Gardai have warned the public to be wary of any strangers calling to their door in the wake of this crime, which occurred in the Mullinahone area on Tuesday, September 17 between 4pm and 5pm.
The 69 year-old victim opened his front door to a man aged in his 20s, who told him he was calling to do a meter reading.
The criminal searched the resident at the door, took a quantity of cash from him and left the scene.
The householder was fortunately not assaulted during the frightening encounter.
Gardai based at Clonmel Garda Station are investigating the crime.
Det. Sgt. Seamus Maher said they were seeking the public’s help in tracing the culprit.
“We are looking for information in relation to any vehicles or people seen acting suspiciously in the Mullinahone area on Tuesday, September 17.”
He advised anyone with information that may assist their investigation to contact Clonmel Garda Station.
Det. Sgt. Maher also advised the public to be cautious of any strangers calling to their door and to request identification.
Where possible, householders should take the details of any vehicle and its registration number driven by suspicious individuals that call to their home and contact the Gardai immediately.”
