Carrick-on-Suir Fire Station is to receive a new €250,000 fire tender in the next two weeks.
The Class B Fire Appliance will replace an old fire tender at the station.
Carrick-on-Suir Fire Station covers not alone Carrick town but a wide rural area including Mullinahone, Ballyneale, Grangemockler and some communities in Carrick’s Co. Waterford and Kilkenny hinterlands. The station has two fire tenders and a jeep.
South Tipperary Fire Chief Ray O’Leary said the new fire appliance is being funded by the Department of Environment and Local Government.
He said the old fire appliance it’s replacing will be deployed somewhere else in the service.
Fine Gael Cllr Louise McLoughlin of Carrick-on-Suir Municipal District Council has welcomed the upgrading of one of Carrick Fire Station’s key vehicles.
She said the arrival of this new fire tender will be a great morale boost to Carrick Fire Station Officer Tom O’Donovan and his fire crew.
