The people of Carrick-on-Suir have a new park bench to sit and relax on during a visit to the Town Park.

Carrick-on-Suir Town Council has erected the bench to commemorate the 175 years of the local authority and it features a plaque to mark the special anniversary.

“The bench is something the whole community can use. We have put it near one of the park benches that is used quite frequently by people who use the park. A lot of people gather around there. Hopefully it will be there for posterity to be used by the town’s people,” said Mayor of Carrick-on-Suir Cllr Patsy Fitzgerald.

The bench is one of several ways the Town Council is marking its 175th anniversary over the past month.

A special Town Council meeting, an schools essay competition and exhibition of Council memorabilia are some of the other events that have been organised.
