Tipp by-pass could be carried out in stages

Fine Gael Deputy Spokesperson for Transport Tom Hayes this week raised the Tipperary by-pass with Fred Barry, CEO of the NRA in a Dáil Transport Committee meeting.

At the meeting, Fred Barry acknowledged that in the event of full funding not being available for the project, very strong consideration will be given to completing the road project in sections.

"I received a commitment from Fred Barry that this roads project can be delivered in sections in the event of full funding being unavailable, given the current financial situation in Ireland. The NRA CEO especially noted that the section around Tipperary Town urgently needed to be prioritised, and it can be completed ahead of the less urgent parts of this route if necessary," said Deputy Hayes.

"This is a major step forward for the South Tipperary area, as this road project is badly overdue. Enabling the projects to be completed in sections is an important step forward, if funding prevents the full project going ahead at once," he added.
