Cashel Chamber of Commerce is promoting a Shop Local campaign in the hope that Christmas cheer can spread to as many people as possible in the town this month.
Cashel Credit Union is joining the Chamber in this campaign, which is highlighting to the people of the town the importance of shopping and doing business locally.
All shops and businesses are displaying the Shop Local poster and signs are erected in strategic locations in the town and on approach roads to encourage people who work, live and socialise in Cashel and surrounding areas to shop local.
This is the latest of the business initiatives implemented by the Chamber this year to focus public attention on the businesses and services in Cashel.
The main themes of the campaign are "Keep the cash in Cashel this Christmas" and "The best present you can give this year is a job".
Unemployment in the Cashel area has increased three fold over the past 12 months.
The number of retail units empty on the main street of Cashel and local commercial parks are a matter of concern for the Chamber and it is a direct result of a decrease in footfall in the town and of the fear that has gripped consumers.
Doom and Gloom seems to be the headline of the day but the Chamber is encouraging Cashel people to look at the positives. It is truly a buyer's market and those who want to keep their cash in Cashel have a duty to ask the shop owner to look at supplying that baking ingredient they can never find or stock that vegetable they never seem to have.
