Pat Cunningham is still committed to raising much needed funds for Crumlin Children’s Hospital.
Along with Karen Moore, Pat has continued their work for Crumlin and Chernobyl on the fundraising front and they also had a baby girl, so it’s been a busy year.
Now he is planning a huge challenge for himself that he has called ‘Saddle Sore for Crumlin’.
“The idea is to ride my motorbike around Ireland in 24 hours with a total of 1,100 miles approx. I have to clock in, in various places to prove I have done the challenge. My route is as follows: Depart Cahir at 10pm, then travel to and check in at Dublin, Wexford, Waterford, Cork, Killarney, Limerick, Galway, Clifden, Donegal, Letterkenny, Ballycastle, Belfast, Dublin and Cahir again before 10.00pm the next night,” Pat explained the challenge
“I have ridden my bike on long trips so I am well equipped for this trip. I have to stay within the speed limits and safety is the rule here. People ask is it safe, well the answer is, yes, because we make it safe by ensuring we take regular stops, eating properly, keeping focused and sticking to the map and deadlines I have set. The bikes are in tip top condition as are the riders. I have four other motorcycle riders joining me on this trip, all have a higher level of rider skill than the ordinary bike rider on the street and they hail from around the country but we will meet in Dublin.”
Pat will be looking for sponsorship from people and businesses around Cahir in the coming days and weeks.
“I will call to factories, pubs, shops etc with my donation cards and if you can help that’s great if not that’s ok too,” he said. “I know times are hard and all donations are greatly needed in the Hospital and anything from a couple of euro’s helps.
“All money raised goes direct to the hospital and my expenses are from my own pocket, I use my own money to fund the trip and give up my time to raise money. So please help if you can. If you would like to contact me regarding this trip, if you want to arrange a fundraising event for Crumlin yourself or help out in any way then please call 0861511853.”
