Comeragh College student reaches youth award final

A civic minded Carrick-on-Suir student has qualified for the All-Ireland Final of the Lions Club's Youth Award competition.

A civic minded Carrick-on-Suir student has qualified for the All-Ireland Final of the Lions Club's Youth Award competition.

Daryl Walsh, who winner the Carrick-on-Suir Lions Club Youth Award, has now won the South East Regional Final of the competition.

This qualifies him for the All-Ireland Final in Dublin this Saturday, January 15.

Daryl is a final year student at Comeragh College and was nominated by the Neighbourhood Youth Project and was selected over seven very strong candidates by judges Mairead Tobin, Sheila O'Donoghue and Robert Kenny at the local interview process.

The other candidates were Kieran Mansfield representing Tipperary Scout Group, Evan Ryan and Nicole Breen representing the Junior St. Vincent de Paul Conference, James English and Patricia Kelly representing Water Safety, Maeve Lowry representing Scoil Mhuire Secondary School and Jamie Torpey representing CBS Secondary School.

Lion President Maria Madden and Youth Award Officer Stephanie Keating and all the Lion Club members wish Daryl the very best of luck on Saturday.

Carrick-on-Suir Lions Club has long being associated with the Lions International Youth Award, which is judged mainly on community involvement and leadership qualities.

This is only the third time that a local Club nominee has reached the All-Ireland final.
