A young Clonmel woman was seriously assaulted and later abandoned on the outskirts of Tipperary Town last week.
The victim, aged in her early 20s, was on a night out in Clonmel last Thursday night and her terrifying ordeal began in the early hours of Friday (August 9) when she was taken in a vehicle from the town and seriously assaulted before being let out of the vehicle in the Scallagheen area of Tipperary.
The badly beaten and traumatised woman went to a house in Scallagheen and raised the alarm.
Gardai investigating the crime say she suffered facial and dental injuries and was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital for treatment. She has since been discharged from hospital and is now home.
Gardai believe there were three men aged in their 20s in the vehicle.
Det. Sgt. Seamus Maher of Clonmel Garda Station appealed to anyone in Clonmel town centre between 3am and 4am on Friday, who saw a young woman with a number of men or any activity that caused them concern to contact the Gardai. He also appealed for assistance from anyone who saw a suspicious vehicle, a young woman in distress or getting out of a vehicle in the Scallagheen area of Tipperary between 4am and 5am the same day.
Det. Sgt. Maher said Gardai are following a number of lines of inquiry into the incident and are viewing CCTV footage of areas the victim was in that night. Anyone with information can contact Clonmel Garda Station at (052) 6122222 or Tipperary Garda Station at (062) 51212.
