Regional radio station, Beat 102-103 helped one loved-up Tipperary couple make their dream come true last week.
The radio station ran a competition looking for five women from the south east who were willing to pop the question to their other half on Leap day, Tuesday, February 29.
In exchange for taking this major step live on air, the successful couple got to walk away with a handmade diamond engagement ring from Wexford- based Steven Bourke Jewellery design. Five women - two from Wexford, one from Tipperary and one from Waterford - came forward and told their story on Beat Breakfast. Their voices were disguised to ensure their other half remained in the dark about the whole plan. Listeners were then asked to vote for free online and select their favourite.
Laura Sweeney from Cashel emerged as the winner. The 27 year-old has been going out with her boyfriend, 31 year-old P.J Colville, also from Cashel, for the last 10 years. She told Beat listeners that they had encountered numerous obstacles, particularly with her partner’s recent health problems, but all of these challenges just made her even more certain that she wanted to marry P.J.
On the morning of February 29 she travelled with Beat presenter Teresanne O’Reilly and the Beat fleet promotions team to her partner. Live on air she knocked on his door and popped the question. Luckily for her, P.J. gave her the right answer.
