Munster Senior Club of the year award.
Cashel RFC have been honoured with the Senior Club of The Year Award at the annual Munster Rugby Awards function held on May 5 at Thomond Park.
In 2008/2009 season and again in 2010/2011 the club received the Junior Club of The Year awards.
Donal Lenihan, former Ireland Captain and Lions player, who acted as MC for the night, gave special praise to Cashel for the achievements of the season and said that it was the first time a club had won a Junior award and then a Senior award the following season in their first year in Senior ranks.
It was a special night for the club. President Padraig Ryan accepted the trophy on behalf of the club.
There was also a Cashel connection when Ray Hennessy of Cork Con and Munster was inducted into the Hall of Fame. He spoke very fondly afterwards of the many games he played for Cashel back in the 50’s.
It was also a special night for Nenagh when their powerful forward Donnacha Ryan was awarded the Munster Player of the year award. A great honour indeed for Donnacha and his club and well deserved.
Everybody in Cashel RFC was shocked to hear of the death of former Cashel great Tadgh Rafferty last week. He played for the club for many years and was a powerhouse in the pack. He also played senior rugby for Bohemians in Limerick. He acted as club coach and president and was a very active member over the years. He recently attended the final All Ireland League match of the season against Rainey Old Boys in Spafield and was delighted with the result. He never lost his love of Cashel Rugby Club and was a regular on the sideline at many of our matches. We extend our condolences to his family. May he rest in peace.
