Ten-year old Hannah Kate Heffernan, a fifth class student from Shronell N.S. was awarded second place in the ‘Cuisle Young Poet of the Year Awards’ that took place in the Belltable Theatre, Limerick recently.
This is the third time that Hannah has won a poetry competition in the last twelve months. Last year she won a local poetry competition organised by Joe Whelan’s shop and subsequently she took first prize in the Annual Trócaire poetry awards for her poem, “Hope for the Children of tomorrow”.
Sixth class pupil Padraig Power from Shronell NS was also present at the Trócaire Awards, having won 1st place in the senior category.At the presentation of the prizes in Dublin there was a peculiar twist for the Shronell pupils when it was discovered that the winner in the adult category, Elenor Griffin was a Shronell past pupil.
