Ireland South MEP Phil Prendergast says she is committed to run in next May’s European Elections having already received backing from the Socialists and Democrats.
Ms Prendergast said she had the support of the S&D group in the European Parliament and expressed confidence that the Labour Party will also back her ahead of next month’s convention.
“In the last three years I’ve had a track record of hard work both as a legislator in the European Parliament on the Internal Market and Consumer Affairs Committee, where I have been responsible for a number of important pieces of legislation particularly concerning workers’ rights and consumer rights” she said.
MEP Prendergast said she had listened to the people of the constituency over the last few years and knows what people expect from their MEP.
“I have visited practically every town and village in Ireland South over the past three years, I’ve listened and I feel I know what people want from their MEPs and I believe I am the most qualified person for the job” said the Clonmel based politician.
“I have support and knowledge not just in one county but across all of the ten counties in the newly drawn constituency, which will be crucial if Labour is to retain its seat”.
