South Tipperary householders have been warned by the gardai to step up their home security as burglaries are expected to increase in the run up to Christmas.

Sgt. Jim Tierney of Clonmel Garda Station urged residents to be more vigilant about securing oil tanks, sheds and their homes particularly during the daytime if they are away.

He made his comments as gardai in the Clonmel District investigate a day time break-in to a house at Linden Lea, Silversprings, Clonmel and the theft of a lawnmower and strimmer from a shed at a house at Lisbalting, Kilsheelan in the past week.

The burglars who targetted the house in Linden Lea last Friday, September 28 were disturbed during the crime and escaped in an Opel Vectra car. No property was reported stolen and gardai are following a definite line of enquiry.

The theft of the garden equipment from a shed at Lisbalting, Kilsheelan occurred took place last Friday night/Saturday morning.

Gardai have appealed to anyone who saw suspicious activity in the Lisbalting area that night to contact Clonmel Garda Station at (052) 6172513.
