Dara to sprint for Ireland in Finland

Carrick-on-Suir AC star Dara Kervick has been selected for the Irish team that will compete in the European U-23 Championships in Tampere, Finland later this week.

Carrick-on-Suir AC star Dara Kervick has been selected for the Irish team that will compete in the European U-23 Championships in Tampere, Finland later this week.

Dara will compete for Ireland in the 400m in the championship that begin on Thursday and run until Sunday. He has been in top form recently setting a personal best of 47.28 seconds at the AAI Games last month. He also achieved a PB of 21.63 seconds in the 200m at the Irish U-23 Championship in Tullamore last Sunday. It was the fastest 200m time of the day. Meanwhile, there were great victories for two of the four Carrick AC athletes, who represented their schools in the Tailteann Athletics Championship in Tullamore last Saturday.

Kellyann Doyle of Scoil Mhuire, Carrick-on-Suir won the 300m hurdles in 44.35 seconds while Leanne Prout of Presentation, Ballingarry was 3rd in 46.16 seconds. Darren Prout of Presentation Ballingarry won the Triple Jump with a 13.5m leap that was almost a meter ahead of his nearest rival. Michael Dineen of De La Salle, Waterford was 5th in the Javelin with a 40.61m throw.
