Cllr Joe Brennan said that the customer service focus was “forward thinking.”

However, Cllr Darren Ryan said he was worried about the future use of the historic Clonmel Borough Council building.

Cllr Marie Murphy raised a similar worry for the closing Erasmus Smith House in Cahir, and said an alternative use for the building had to be found.

Cllr Denis Leahy said the merger was “no service to democracy,” while Cllr Billy Shoer predicted “mayhem going into the future.”

Cllr Joe Donovan said it will be “a backward step as far as the public are concerned.”
