Great sporting success at Killurney National School

Senior Room pupils in Killurney N.S. (3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th class) and their teacher Tanya St. John traveled to Marlfield for the annual Cross Country Running Championships.

This proved to be a very successful day for Killurney.

Jake ffrench Davis (4th class) won the gold medal in his race (3rd and 4th class boys) and Alexandra Hourigan took the bronze in the 3rd and 4th class girls race. The 3rd and 4th class girls and boys won the gold medals for the team events with most of the runners finishing in the top ten.

The 5th class girls took the silver medal for their team event whist the 5th and 6th class boys also won the gold.

After all the results were collated we were delighted to discover that Killurney N.S. won two shields in the small school category – one for the girls and one for the boys.

We also took part in the Thurles Cross Country Championships in Thurles Crokes. Jake ffrench Davis and Alexandra Hourigan again were victorious on the day. Jake won the bronze medal in his race and Alexandra won the bronze in her race. The 3rd and 4th class girls won the gold medals for the team event also with Alexandra Hourigan, Susan Shanahan and Eva Fitzpatrick receiving gold medals for their tremendous efforts.

In other sporting news, Jake ffrench Davis, Conor Neville and Michael Ryan represented Killurney N.S. and Clonmel Celtic F.C. when they were selected to travel to the Aviva Stadium to play a number of soccer matches. Their team made it to the final and they got to play at half time during the Ireland and Kazakhstan match. This was a great achievement for the boys.
