Faugheen gears up for motorcycle races

Top motorcycle racers from all over Ireland and abroad will compete in the annual Faugheen 50 Road Races on Saturday and Sunday, August 14 and 15.

Top motorcycle racers from all over Ireland and abroad will compete in the annual Faugheen 50 Road Races on Saturday and Sunday, August 14 and 15.

The Faugheen 50 Road Race Club has received commitments from enough racers to run the road race again this summer.

The Club said it was delighted to confirm that William Dunlop, Derek McGee and Derek Sheils will be among the well known motorcyclists taking part. Brian McCormack and John Walsh will be representing the local club in the in the national races.

Faugheen 50 Road Races Secretary Maeve Walsh said the Club sincerely thanked all the racers they spoke to over the last few days, who gave firm commitments to attend the road race and all those who promised to bring extra bikes. She also thanked their sponsors as well as residents and farmer in Faugheen and surrounding areas for their continued support.

“We are proud of the Irish road race community, who have pulled out all the stops and who may incur extra costs to attend our road race to ensure that we maintain an Irish Championship Road Race here in the village of Faugheen,” said told The Nationalist.

“We are sincerely thrilled and delighted that we are going ahead with the 2015 running of the Faugheen 50 Road Race.”

Ms Walsh appealed to local people to support the event by attended the road races. There will be practices for all classes on Saturday, August 15 with roads closed at 12 noon. Race day for all classes is Sunday, August 16. Roads close at 11am.
