Cashel Lions Club were delighted with the huge response to their appeal for CHRISTMAS SHOEBOXES which resulted in over 180 boxes being handed over to the Team Hope Organisation at the Parish Centre recently.

Team Hope deliver the shoebox gifts into the hands of children who have very little in this life, and these gifts from all over Ireland (and indeed from many other countries in the Western World), bring joy, laughter, hope and dignity to those who have little or nothing.

The recipients could range from orphans in rural Romania, parentless family groups in Swaziland, a child with cancer in a Ukraine hospital, a nine year old whose Mum and Dad have died of AIDS in Lesotho, or a girl who was sold into prostitution in Moldova – quite shocking when you think of it Team Hope check the donated shoeboxes meets all the customs and safety requirements, seal them and send them on by truck or container.

In the receiving country their network of local partners deliver the boxes right into a child’s hands – in hospitals, schools, shelters, churches, orphanages, community centres or family homes.

Lions Clubs throughout Ireland are willing partners in this very worthy work and wish to thank all those parents and children who were involved in the collection of gifts and packing and decorating the boxes and also all the volunteers who work quietly in the background, bringing it all together. They would also like to thank the businesses and individuals in the town who contributed money towards the cost of despatching the shoeboxes. Their generosity is much appreciated.
