Carrick on Suir has a new mayor this week, following the unanimous election of Cllr Liam Walsh to ‘first citizen.’

The new mayor is being honoured with the position for the third time in his political career - Cllr Walsh previously served as Mayor of Carrick on Suir in 2003/04 and again in 2008/09.

Cllr Walsh’s nomination was unopposed as the mayors for the five year term of the present council was decided at the first meeting of the town council after the last local election in 2009.

The new mayor was joined on the special evening by his family - wife Helen, sons John and Francis, daughters Megan, Siobhan, Eleanor and Elizabeth.
