On a beautiful sunny evening in June the residents of St. Michaels Avenue and Marian Terrace came together to celebrate 15 years of their annual community mass held in the community garden.
“This was really a wonderful occasion and it was lovely to see all the residents and children come along to this special event,” said Jean Nelson Committee member.
The Mass celebrant was Archdeacon McGrath who was presented with a small gift by Maureen Duffy on behalf of the residents association for celebrating the community mass with them since the year 2000. The CJ Kickham band enhanced the evening with music that was really appreciated by the large crowd that included some former residents of the area who returned especially for the Mass. Also present were Garda Sgt. Paul Dennihy and Garda Ger Geary the community Gardai for the area.
The prayers were read and offertory gifts were presented by the local children: Emma Crowe, Sinead Swords, Brianna Byrnes, Caitlin Byrnes, Dylan Casey, Kara Price, Emma Crowe and Evbha Byrnes.
The altar table was provided by Eileen O’Donnell and the lovely flower arrangements by Peggy Liston. Eamonn Ryan read the readings at the mass and Paddy Clarke and Knockanrawley provided the chairs. The community garden looked extremely well and the committee members: Noreen O’Reilly, Alice Crowe, Breda Perkins, Eamonn Ryan, Maried O’Brie, Jean & Norman Nelson, Archdeacon McGrath, Lorraine Swords, Eileen O’Reilly, Teresa Swords and Anne Swords wish to thank everyone who worked so hard in the garden and to those who made the evening such a success.
