Members of the Accord services were delighted to officially open the new venue on Abbey Street, Tipperary Town last week. For a number of years the Accord services were being held at the Community Centre on St. Michael’s Street until they obtained new premises.
Accord is an Irish voluntary Catholic organisation that aims to promote a deeper understanding of Christian marriage and to offer people the means to safeguard and nourish their marriage and family relationships. The service provides marriage preparation courses for couples setting out on their journey into married life and professional and confidential counselling for couples experiencing difficulties in their marriage and relationship.
There are 58 Centers throughout Ireland and the Tipperary Centre has been active for over 40 years, formerly known as CMAC. Trained volunteers from the community in Tipperary and its surrounds have given tirelessly of their time to provide the services Accord offer.
Accord was originally based in the community centre in Michael Street but relocated to new premises in Abbey Street in the past year. This move was made due to a greater demand for counseling and more space was required. The premises at No. 8 Abbey St Tipperary is comfortable and modern and has three well appointed and private rooms for counseling it also provides a large meeting room for marriage preparation courses, an office and a compact kitchen. The meeting room is available to other organisations for meetings, courses, lectures etc. and ample car parking is available in an adjacent car park.
The Tipperary Centre runs eleven marriage preparation courses each year. Upcoming dates for 2013: January 18/19, February 8/9/22/23, March 8/9, April 19/20, May 17/18, June 14/15, September 20/21, October 11/12, November 1/2/22/23.
Accord marriage preparation courses are called, ‘Marriage is A Journey not A Destination’. The course offers couples an opportunity to explore aspects of their relationship with each other that they might not otherwise find time to do so in an environment is comfortable, friendly and confidential. Each course runs from Friday from 8 to 10 pm and again on Saturday from 10am to 5pm. All Accord counsellors are qualified and highly skilled and work with clients on an appointment basis. Keeping a marriage together, can at times, be hard work but rewarding. A marriage break up is very traumatic and if at all possible must be the last resort, so before you get to the stage where you can no longer talk to each other then perhaps you could talk to Accord.
Accord is a voluntary organisation and is always delighted to welcome and train people who are willing to give of their time to the organising and running of the service. Call into the office or telephone 062 33330.
