A great crowd came to the free Alzheimer’s Disease and other Dementias training programme at the Excel, Tipperary Town on the night of Wednesday, March 12.
People attending, who are currently caring for a parent with a dementia, commented how useful it was. Tips were picked up about how to cope in tense situations, for example when a parent gets worked up over something or gets frustrated.
Family members felt their understanding of dementia had been increased, and that they felt better equipped to deal with challenging situations and keep a loved one with a dementia as happy as possible at home.
The training was delivered by Geraldine Hoyne RPN RGN and Michael Wright of Home Instead Senior Care.
The aim of the training was to help people communicate with people with memory difficulties, and to understand why someone with memory difficulties might be behaving in a way that others found upsetting or difficult or even dangerous.
Home Instead Senior Care is Tipperary’s leading home care provider, providing assistance to families across South Tipperary, ensuring people can remain independent at home for as long as possible.
