On Thursday the local force crossed the road from their station in the town to Morrissey’s supermarket where a special stand was set up for the day. There was a lot of local interest in the initiative.

The Garda Commissioner designated September 24 to October 1 as a Garda Supporting Communities Campaign. This gave An Garda Siochána an opportunity to further pledge it’s commitment, to enhance and develop policing in partnership with communities, in order to promote and support safer communities. The primary aim of this campaign is to facilitate, support and highlight Garda Community engagement aimed at reducing the opportunity for crime, reducing the fear of crime and promoting community safety. This campaign reaffirmed the ethos of ‘Community Policing’, through the hosting of activities within communities. The campaign gives gardai an opportunity to give the public some simple, but effective crime prevention and road safety advice.
