The High School and Presentation Secondary School, Clonmel are presenting High School Musical as their annual school show in the White Memorial Theatre, Clonmel on this Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 26th- 29th.
This joint schools project has been running for 35 years and there’s no doubt that we will be treated to another excellent production.
This year a large cast of 70 talented teenagers take to the stage to tell the lively and popular tale, which was a 2006 American television film.
With a plot described by the author and numerous critics as a modern adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, High School Musical is a story about two high school juniors from rival cliques – Troy Bolton (Brian Mangan), captain of the basketball team, and Gabriella Monte (Ciara O’Halloran), a beautiful and shy transfer student who excels in maths and science. Together they try out for the lead parts in their high school musical, and as a result divide the school. Despite other students’ attempts to thwart their dreams, Troy and Gabriella resist peer pressure and rivalry, inspiring others along the way not to “stick to the status quo”. Sharpay Evans (Alexandra Lumley), a drama queen and high school diva will do anything to sabotage the friendship between Troy and Gabriella and also get a lead in the school musical, assisted by her brother Ryan (James Dillon).
The show is directed and produced by Keith Greene and Lisa O’Brien, with musical direction from Siobhan Alley and Olga Gannon.
Tickets are now on sale in both schools and are priced at €10 for Wednesday and Thursday and €12 for Friday and Saturday.
