Daniel Traas and Michael Barlow are the company directors of Dan & Mike’s Ice-Cream and Sorbets – a company set up in 2011.

Both students were finalists at the National Junior Dragon’s Den competition in Dublin on December 8.

Second level students from every corner of Ireland were invited to submit a business idea in September and six projects were initially submitted from the school. Three were chosen for the Regional Final and two made it to the National Final – a fantastic achievement out of 400 entries.

Some of the greatest business ideas and entrepreneurial successes start as early as school days and the High School has a strong ethos for promoting entrepreneurial spirit.

To date the High School has won several national and international awards for enterprise. Students are actively encouraged and motivated to start their own business and there are presently over 50 companies being operated by students within the school.

In addition, the High School Business teachers have developed a close working relationship with local companies and entrepreneurs in Clonmel.

Dan & Mike’s Ice-Cream Company was the only business selected in County Tipperary to appear on the Dragon’s Den TV programme. These young entrepreneurs have come up with some new flavoured ice-creams for the Irish market as well as sorbets for those who are lactose intolerant.

It will be very exciting to watch Daniel and Michael on national TV, especially since they are now just one idea, one pitch and one deal away from fulfilling their entrepreneurial dream!
