An ecumenical Paschal Fire blessing took place in the grounds of Old St Mary’s Church in Clonmel on Saturday evening as part of the Easter ceremonies in the churches.

Representatives from all the town parishes, the Franciscan Friary and the Church of Ireland took part in the moving ceremony.

Following the ceremony, the candles were then taken in procession to the various churches.

A large crowd from each of the parishes attended in the grounds of historic Old St Mary’s.

Heavily involved in the ceremony was SS Peter and Paul’s curate, Fr.Slavomir Jarzab, a native of Poland who has been curate in the Clonmel parish for the past twenty months.

He is now returning to Poland and received a warm send off at Masses in the parish on Easter Sunday.
