Tipperary students win Texaco art prizes

Three Tipperary students have won top prizes in this year’s 59th Texaco Children’s Art Competition.

In the 9-11 years age category, first prize of €250 was won by 10-year-old Miranda Yanez, from Lackamore National School, Newport, for her topically titled painting ‘A horse belongs on a field not on your plate’. Other Tipperary winners, all of whom won Special Merit Awards, are Laoise Carey (17), a pupil at St. Mary’s Secondary School, Nenagh, and Connall Stokes–Rodriguez (10), a pupil at Ayle National School, Monard. Connall’s brother Iobhar (15), who attends St. Fintan’s Christian Brothers School, Doon, also won a Special Merit Award.

Prizes will be presented at an awards ceremony in Dublin next month when all of the 126 top prize-winners will be in attendance.

The competition, which attracted entries from each of the 32 counties, will celebrate its 60th anniversary next year.
