Clonmel Camera Club is celebrating its 10th anniversary with the annual members photographic exhibition at the Library in Mick Delahunty Square.
The exhibition, which was opened last week by District Mayor Martin Lonergan before a large gathering, continues until this Saturday, August 16.
The Mayor praised the efforts and creative skills of those exhibiting and he wished the club continued success. He spoke of the delight of being able to look at the printed image rather than viewing images on a phone or on social media, as is mostly the case today. He said this was important, as a printed picture may well become a lifelong treasure.
The main purpose of the exhibition is to encourage members to get out with their gear and explore their creativity by selecting an interesting subject, creating an image, then editing and enhancing it, before having it framed and mounted for the exhibition. This sometimes requires return visits and adjustments to the chosen topic to achieve the required result.
Having the images displayed will allow the photographers the opportunity to discuss and compare notes, such as how they went about capturing their picture. By so doing they will share and gain knowledge and ideas, which is one of the main reasons for being part of the club.
The other important aim of staging the exhibition is to allow the public the opportunity to come along and to enjoy the images and make comment on the various pictures. This is something the members encourage, as it is always nice to get feedback. Another very important aim of the exhibition is to advertise the club in the best possible way by showing photos, and to encourage people to come along and join.
The Clonmel Camera Club started life in September 2004. It has maintained a steady membership throughout those years and has seen many of its members developing their skills to become excellent photographers. These photographers are available to share their knowledge with those starting out who wish to become part of the club.
